From
the very beginning, when we set out to build this quality
leather and nylon gear, we knew that the caliber of the
raw materials and the integrity of the design had to be
spot-on. There are five things that really drive product
development, design and construction around here:
-
Task-specific Gear
with lots of Options
- Inspired
Design for Demanding Users and Environments
-
Ergonomic Integrity
for Maximum User Comfort
- Distinctive
Craftsmanship
in both Construction and Attention to Detail
- Highest
Levels of Respect in Customer Service and
Delivered Value
This
is an uncompromising list of principles, and so from very
early on we knew our prices would probably be high. We
also knew, because creating the gear involves so many
handcrafted processes and quality checks, that cutting
corners just to cut costs was not an option.
So
rather than compromise on our principles, we decided early
on to embrace the concept of designing and building only
the finest gear, and equipping it with a Limited
Lifetime Guarantee of performance and quality
that's tailored to the way you use it.
It
is for these reasons that we have established a working
time frame of 4 to 6 weeks to complete all orders. We
apologize for the long turn-around, but feel the end product
is well worth the wait! We're confident you'll agree.
Now
we'd like to tell you a little bit more about just how
these great Duckbill products are handmade for you!
At
Duckbill, we have a Proud Heritage of Pragmatic Know-How
and Inventiveness. Having started out from humble beginnings
crafting specialized products for paper mill workers in
the Trois-Rivières area of Québec, Duckbill
grew to become a purveyor of advanced carrying equipment
- with ergonomic design for safety, health, and most importantly
increased personal productivity!
The
land surrounding the historic city of Trois Rivières,
Québec is rugged country indeed. All along the
St Lawrence River from Chicoutimi to Baie Comeau, the
simultaneous beauty and peril of this land is reflected
in the lives of the people who live there. Logging, papermaking,
mining, commercial fishing and trapping are all common
professions. There's also a history of leather working
that stretches back to the 17th century. This is our heritage
and these are the people that design and manufacture Duckbill
gear - self sufficient, strong, no-nonsense types.
Because
they work by hand, each craftsman in our plant in Québec
has total control over the leather he or she is working
with. Each one knows how to spot the strengths and weaknesses
in the grain. And each one has the authority to reject
any raw material that doesn't meet the high standards
that we have for ourselves and that our customers expect
from us.
Duckbill
gear is designed to resist heavy use.
There's no embossing to compromise the microstructure
of the leather. We use industrial strength snaps, hooks
and Velcro® to aid the utility and the functionality
of the gear we build for you.
But
each module is additionally custom designed to avoid unnecessary
strains on the linear strength of the hides we use. We
designed out anything that might impair the structural
integrity of the leather we carefully select for use.
We use only
the highest quality cowhide, that's made using low-waste
processes and eco-conscious techniques. The bio-technology
inherent in the tanning process allows us a fair amount
of latitude to experiment with ways to tweak the suppleness
and wear-resistant qualities of the gear we make.
We make gear
that's rugged and functional, that's also made to be worn
comfortably. It's made to exacting standards. We don't
think of ourselves as artists. We do however think of
ourselves as craftsmen.
The concept
of Personal Productivity is what drives Duckbill Outdoors.
When you're in the field, you're there in part because
you enjoy the challenge, but you're also out there to
achieve personal goals and to perform up to the standards
you've set for yourself.
If your gear
isn't helping you to do it; then it's preventing you from
doing it well.
That's our
philosophy too.
We don't want
to sell what we make. We want you to own what you need.
We're not trying to sell something that we made last week
or last month, or that we've had sitting in inventory
for half a year. We want to sell you what you need to
achieve your goals on your terms - not ours.
And so everything
we make is made when you order it from the raw material
that's best suited to the challenge you assign to it.
This process takes a little longer. But we think the result
is a better one.
We hope you'll
agree.
